Madonna starred in Evita which was released during the fall of 1996. – “And if ever I go too far It’s because of the things you are beautiful town, I love you.”
For the next year and a half, I got to know Washington, DC pretty well. Since I couldn’t afford a car, I became accustomed to a life of walking and biking everywhere. I used public transportation a lot.
Living in the city was intense. DC was a hard place to live sometimes, and the gay scene was overwhelming. Even though on the surface, DC appeared to be a very conservative town, there were all kinds of things going on in the background, behind the scenes. No matter if you were straight or gay, DC had a lot of options when it came to finding a bar, or a club to match your particular taste. Sex was everywhere. I couldn’t tell you how many supposedly “straight” married men I met in the gay bars. It made me look at the world in an entirely new way.
It was around this time that Madonna starred in the film, Evita. Due to my obsession with Madonna’s music, I made a point to see this movie at least five times on the big screen. I loved it. At this point in my life, I had never seen Madonna live in concert, so I set the goal of seeing her before I turned 40 years old.
