April 15, 2010 | Letting Go
I woke up excited about seeing my family. However, before I headed out to meet them, I took a drive to the summit of Pilot Mountain.
Once I reached the overlook, I discovered that I was the only person at the pinnacle. It was a beautiful morning, and the sun was partially hidden behind a very thin cloud, which made the mountain appear very ethereal.
As I was making my way back down the mountain, I came upon a deer walking alongside the road. As soon as it saw me, it dashed into the woods. I stopped and waited for the deer to reappear, and my patience paid off. Shortly afterward the deer peaked his head up over the side of the road, and I was able to take its photo. If you click on the image below you will see the deer.
After my visit with the deer, I left Pilot Mountain and headed towards Galax, Virginia, to meet some of my family. I arrived at 12:32 PM, a little over an hour later. No one had arrived, but when I checked my voicemail messages, I discovered that they were running behind schedule and should arrive sometime around 5:00 PM.
I pulled my truck down to the New River, parked on the banks of the river and the first thing I saw was a Red-Winged Blackbird.
Blackbird brings the following message:
- Connection to the water plant kingdom
- Doing trance work
- Use of camouflage in protection of family
- Ability to sway with the winds of change – Copyright www.animalspirits.com
My sister and her husband arrived around 5:30 and we spent the next hour or so setting up their RV. After we set the RV in place and opened all of the windows and slide-outs, the three of us had a friendly conversation over a couple of beers.
That evening we drove into downtown Independence and had a bite to eat. We returned to our camping spot and my sister, and I played a board game while my brother-in-law watched a movie on the television.
Sometime around 10:30 my brother arrived with his wife, and the five of us sat around and talked for about an hour. While everyone was talking, I started thinking about how important family is. I think this song sums up the concept of family up perfectly. Regardless of our likes and dislikes family will always be there for you in the end. And my family has proven that like no other.
My brother and his wife went to their camper to go to sleep, and my sister and I sat up and played the board game for a few more hours. Every time we would finish a game my sister would say, “Let’s play one more time!” and before we knew, one more time had turned into three or more times. I cherished moments like these.
After our last game, I said good-night and walked down to where I had parked my truck, crawled into the back and went to sleep. My sister had invited me to sleep in their RV, but I opted for my vehicle. I had grown to love sleeping in the back of my truck. I felt safe on this night.
My Kabbalah meditation for the day could not have been any more appropriate.
